Improve community safety, neighbourhood policing and civic pride
Whether people live in Rochford or Shoeburyness where local police stations have been closed by the Conservatives, or in Central Southend where the lack of Police presence on the High Street is obvious, right across this area people are feeling the effects of Police cuts.
People are telling me that they no longer feel safe in our streets and that violent crime and antisocial behaviour leaves them afraid for their safety and that of our young people.
The problem of aggressive begging in our public spaces is clear to everyone. We need pro-active Policing to enforce the law but crucially we also need more help for those people who are vulnerable, homeless or suffering from mental health problems or addiction. We live in a society where too many people are falling through the cracks and it has a detrimental affect on us all.
As your MP, I will press at all levels for more Police on the beat, and for proper old-fashioned neighbourhood Policing working in partnership with proud, responsible communities.
