Reverse Tory cuts to schools and education
Our excellent schools in Rochford & Southend East are part of what attracts people to come and live here when they start their families. However, our schools are dealing with devastating attacks from the Conservatives with budgets cut for the first time since the mid-1990s. Every single school in Rochford & Southend East is under threat from Tory education reforms and cuts, even the grammar schools. This is not acceptable.
At a time when Brexit means we absolutely have to make sure our young people get the education and skills they need to be at the forefront of Britain making its way in the world and forging new trade links this government has decided the best way forward is to slash schools funding and make it even harder for schools to teach.
As a school governor at a school in Shoeburyness I know that Rochford & Southend East’s schools are staffed by excellent and dedicated teachers with hard-working, responsible students striving to achieve their potential and contribute to their communities. They deserve to be properly resourced. Labour will invest in our schools and give teachers the resources they need to make British education the global standard setter again.
Only by maintaining excellent skills and education in the work force can we attract businesses to the town and help make sure Rochford & Southend East continues to thrive economically.
